Accessible Formats and Communication Supports
COBS Bread will provide or arrange for the provision of accessible format and communication supports for persons with disabilities in a timely manner. COBS Bread will take into account the
person’s accessibility needs when customizing individual requests.

Accessible Websites and Web Content
Any significant changes on all internet websites and web content available after January 1, 2014 must be in compliance with the International Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
2.0, level A.

All internet websites and web content, must conform with the International Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, level AA by January 2021.

Training
COBS Bread will provide training to all management and staff at time of hire, and franchisees, on Ontario’s accessibility legislation and on the Human Rights Code as it relates to people with disabilities. Staff will also be trained if changes are made to the COBS Bread Accessibility Policies. COBS Bread will keep a record of the training provided, including the dates on which the training was given, and the names of individuals to whom it was provided. Training will include:

  • An overview of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, and the requirements of the customer service standard.
  • COBS Bread policies, procedures and practices related to the customer service standard.
  • How to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities.
  • How to interact with people with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or a support person.
  • How to use the equipment or devices available on-site or otherwise that may help with providing goods or services to people with disabilities.
  • What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty in accessing COBS Bread goods and services.

Assistive Devices, Service Animals and Support Persons
COBS Bread welcomes the use of assistive devices which may be used by our customers. We welcome people with disabilities and their service animals. Service animals are allowed on
the parts of our premises that are open to the public.

All support persons are welcome at all COBS Bread locations.

Notice of Temporary Disruption
In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to our services or bakeries, COBS Bread will notify customers promptly. This clearly posted notice will include information about the reason
for the disruption, its anticipated length of time, and list alternate COBS locations, if available.

Accessible Employment
Employment Standards Overview
The Employment Standards regulation ensures people with disabilities are welcome and supported within the workplace. The employment standards apply to employment in: recruitment, providing accessible information, plans for emergencies, individual accommodation, return to work, performance management, and career development and redeployment.

Recruitment, Assessment and Selection
COBS Bread will notify employees and the public about the availability of accommodation for job applicants who have disabilities. Applicants must be informed that these accommodations are available, upon request, for the interview process and other candidate selection methods. COBS Bread will notify the successful applicant of their policies and supports for accommodating people with disabilities.

Accessible Formats and Communication Supports for Employees
If an employee with a disability requests it, COBS Bread will provide or arrange for the provision of accessible formats and communication supports for the following:

  • Information needed in order to perform their job; and
  • Information that is generally available to all employees in the workplace.

COBS Bread will consult with the employee making the request to determine the best way to provide the accessible format or communication support.

Documented Individual Accommodation Plans
COBS Bread will also develop and have in place written processes for documenting individual accommodation plans for employees with disabilities. The process for the development of these accommodation plans will include specific elements, including:

  • The ways in which the employee can participate in the development of the plan;
  • The means by which the employee is assessed on an individual basis;
  • The ways an employee can request an evaluation by an outside medical expert, or other experts to determine if accommodation can be achieved, or how it can be achieved;
  • The steps taken to protect the privacy of the employee’s personal information;
  • The frequency with which the individual accommodation plan should be reviewed or updated determined, and how it should be done;

The means of providing the accommodation plan in an accessible format, based on the employee’s accessibility needs.

Plans and Processes
In utilizing performance management tools, or providing career development and advancement, COBS Bread will respect the accessibility needs of employees with disabilities when developing
these processes. COBS Bread will provide a tailored workplace emergency response plan or information for employees with disabilities, if their disability makes it necessary.

Return to Work and Reassignment or Transfer of location
COBS Bread will develop and have return to work procedures in place for employees who are absent from work due to a disability, and require disability-related accommodations in order to return to work. COBS Bread will document these procedures. The return to work procedure will include an outline of the steps COBS Bread will take to facilitate the employee’s return to work and use documented individual accommodation plans (as described in section 28 of the regulation). If COBS Bread reassigns or transfers an employee to another location, we will take into account the accessibility needs of its employees with disabilities. These standards do not apply to volunteers or other non-paid individuals.

Workplace Emergency Response
COBS Bread will provide employees with disabilities with individualized emergency response information when necessary. This information will be provided in an accessible manner so that
the employee can understand it. COBS Bread will review the individual plan as required, depending on the needs of the individual.
