
Freshly Baked COBS Hot From the Oven in Bellevue
Community invited to opening day at the first COBS location in the USA.
Bellevue March 13, 2007 – The aroma of fresh bread will waft along Crossroads Shopping Center on NE 8th Street when COBS Bread opens the doors to its Crossroads location at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2007. Bellevue, Washington will mark the first COBS Bread opening in United Sates and represents another milestone in the Australian-based parent’s expansion plans.
“We are extremely thrilled to be opening our first bakery in the United States. We see Bellevue as a great launching market for us as we further develop our growth across the United States in our quest to deliver great bread experiences to Americans everyday” said COBS President, Braeden Lord.
The new neighbourhood location at K4 – 15600 NE 8th Street (Crossroads Shopping Center) will produce freshly baked items several times per day, seven days a week using time-honoured, scratch-baking methods.
Bread varieties range from traditional white loaves and sourdough “COBS” (round loaves) to country grain and signature items such as Cape Seed and Apricot Delight. Each local bakery offers more than 60 different baked items every day chosen from 200 recipes, some of which have quirky Australian roots such as the CheesyMite Scroll.
“We are excited at the opportunity to delight the Bellevue community with freshly baked breads, sweets and savory items.” said COBS US Regional Director of Operations, Elise Gillespie.
Community connections are important to the COBS philosophy of local involvement. In addition to hiring ‘locals’ COBS donates all left over bread to local charities on a daily basis. In the Bellevue area, local charity Hopelink will collect quality fresh bread products from COBS, which would otherwise have gone to waste, and provides the food to needy local residents in conjunction with their many community services. Furthermore, COBS has also partnered with Hopelink on March 19th for their Dough Raising Day to help to raise funds for their organization.
