Kelly is opening the newest COBS Bread bakery next week in Shawnessy Shopping Centre in Calgary, Alberta! Kelly isn’t new to COBS Bread, though- you might know her as the owner of Centennial Village in Okotoks, Alberta. Learn a little bit more about Kelly in our latest "Behind the Bread."
When did you join the COBS Bread family and what inspired you to do so? I joined COBS in 2011 as a MTO Candidate. COBS offered opportunities that enabled me to achieve my goal of becoming a business owner. I had a lot of experience managing a business but not necessarily the capital to own my own franchise.
What did you do before working at COBS? I started working at McDonald’s when I was 15 years old and worked my way up through the ranks. Before I knew it, 31 years had passed and I was a multi-unit manager. I had opened a few new locations and helped out at struggling locations. I also worked at Pizza Hut and a local ice cream parlor. I took some financial courses and tried my hand at selling life insurance.
Why a COBS Bread? At COBS Bread we bake fresh wholesome products every day, just as my great grandfather did in his bakery many years ago. We use whole grain flour, high quality ingredients and scratch baking techniques, with no added preservatives or artificial colors or flavours in our traditional bread and many of our other products. I love knowing that I am baking a high quality product, for our customers. Real, great people baking real, good and delicious products!
What do you enjoy the most about being a Franchisee? I enjoy the people I work with, the people I meet in the community, and the fact that every day is different!
Which charities will your bakery donate end of day products to? We are currently looking for charities to donate our End of Day Bread to at the Shawnessy bakery- please contact me at email@example.com if you would like to talk this opportunity.
How are you planning on getting involved with the Shawnessy community? We are proud to support Shawnessy through a variety of fun and profitable programs such as our Dough Raiser and Bun Raiser initiatives. In addition, we will be partnering with the YMCA for our Community Day on Wednesday, April 22, where 100% of sales will be donated to the orgainization. We often donate product to local non-profit organizations to help raise money for great causes.
A little more about you…
What did you want to be when you were growing up? A teacher.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I don’t have a lot of spare time! We have a very busy household of teens and young adults, and we are soon to be grandparents! We cherish our family and the time we have together.
COBS Shawnessy will be opening its doors on Wednesday, April 22 from 8am to 6pm. All sales proceeds will be donated to the Shawnessy YMCA. Hours of operation for the bakery will be 7am – 7pm 7 days a week Monday - Sunday.
