Behind the Bread: Rob and Louise in our first bakery in Connecticut!

by Yvonne Y | Jun 16, 2015

This is a very exciting time for the COBS Bread family. On Wednesday, June 24th, Rob and Louise Hyden will be opening the first COBS Bread bakery in Stamford, Connecticut, USA. Originally from Australia and familiar with Bakers Delight, the parent company of COBS Bread, Rob and Louise feel passionately about the bread and the opportunity to share it with their community. Read Rob and Louise's version of Behind the Bread!

When did you join the COBS Bread family and what inspired you to do so?  We are both joining officially as Franchisees for the opening of COBS Bread's first US East Coast store in Stamford, CT.

What did you do before working at COBS?  Rob worked in the finance industry for 29 years before changing direction 3 years ago. Over the years, we raised three boys, (now 17-27) and have lived for periods in Australia, Japan, England. For the last 10 years, we have settled here in Connecticut, USA. Louise was a stay-at-home mum who originally trained in food sciences/teaching. In recent years, we have studied Culinary Management & Culinary Arts at the Institute of Culinary Education, New York and spent some time training in the New York restaurant industry.

What do you enjoy the most about becoming a Franchisee?  We can’t wait to start our own business together and are excited to share with American consumers the products we grew up with and loved in Australia. We look forward to growing the COBS Bread footprint in this region with a team of great, motivated staff who can share in our vision.

Which charities will your bakery donate end of day products to?  We are excited to donate our End of Day products to the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford and other local charities.

How are you planning on getting involved with the Stamford community?  We are proud to support Stamford through a variety of fun and profitable programs such as our Dough Raiser initiatives.  In addition, we will be partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford for our opening Community Day on June 24th. We will also be donating product to local non-profit organizations to help raise money for great causes.

A little more about you…

If you could invite three people to dinner who would they be?   Our three boys: Richie 27, Tom, 24,  and Nick 17 who now live in New York City, Los Angeles & Greenwich, CT. We miss the noise of three boys in our home!

What do you like to do in your spare time? We enjoy the outdoors and sharing fun with our friends on the Connecticut coastline.  Boating, fishing, golf, tennis and a cold drink on a warm summer's day (after a long cold winter!).

What did you want to be when you were growing up? A professional tennis player.

COBS Bread is thrilled to welcome Rob & Louise to the family, in addition to the community of Stamford, Connecticut. Please follow COBS Bread High Ridge on Facebook for freshly baked updates and more, and see below for details regarding their opening Community Day next week!
