Behind the Bread at Marda Loop is a Pastry Chef

by Yvonne Y | Apr 04, 2016

Marda Loop bakery calgaryWe are so excited for the long-awaited opening of the COBS Bread bakery at Marda Loop in Calgary, AB- but not one is as excited as Bishwa Pati, pastry chef, devoted father, and franchise owner of the new location. On Friday, April 8th, the bakery will open with Community Day where all proceeds will be donated to Renfrew Educational Services.

We asked Bishwa to share about himself, and who better to tell us about himself than his 10 year old daughter who filled in the answers to the questions we ask our new bakery owners! The wonderful thing about her responses is that smiling is a recurring theme. Please read below, and join us next week at COBS Bread Marda Loop!

"Behind the Bread" By Ananya Pati ( Bishwa and Suravi’s daughter)

My dad Bishwa and my Mom Suravi are opening  their first bakery in Marda Loop. My Dad is an awesome Pastry Chef and my Mom is an amazing Teacher. We are all very excited to share the delicious breads and pastries that all COBS bakeries make and put smiles on everyone’s face.

Why did you join the COBS Bread family and what inspired you to do so ?

We are first time COBS Bread owners. We wanted to open our own bakery because my Dad has worked all his life as a Pastry Chef and it was time for us to have our own bakery. We love COBS Bread because of the smell of the fresh bread in the morning makes me smile. Also, the bread left at the end of the day, goes to charity and nothing goes to waste. That makes me happy because it helps people who need it.

What did you do before working at COBS ?

My Dad came to Alberta in 2002 from India and Mom came in 2003. My Dad was a Pastry Chef for the last 23 years. Now he is the best Baker I know. My Mom is a teacher and my parents have 2 kids, me and my brother. I am 10 and my brother Aryan is 5 years old.

Why COBS Bread?

My Dad chose COBS Bread because it seemed natural to what he was doing already. But, now he owns the business for our family. Also we love the quality of the products and how they help the community.

What do you enjoy most about being a franchisee ?

He enjoys the support that he gets and also the brand recognition!

Which charities will your bakery donate end of the day products to ?

YYC Homeless and Calgary Food Bank.

How are you planning to getting involved in the community ?

We will help Bake Sales and Dough and Bread Fundraisers [see our Dough Raiser program]. We will also help and support community events and local charities.

A little more about the Patis:

What do you like to do in your spare time ?

My Mom is a Special Education Teacher and loves helping kids who need more support and love. She also enjoys cooking. My Dad is passionate about chocolate and gardening. My brother is a train enthusiast. Of course I love Mathematics, reading and writing. We as a family love hiking in the summer and spend a lot of time in the mountain wilderness. We also love to travel and spend time together.

Thank you so much for sharing, Ananya!
