It’s always a good time to celebrate receiving the Great Place to Work® distinction for the second consecutive year. We are really happy that employees both at our support office and in our bakeries feel good about coming to work every day.
Take Spencer, for example! Spencer is one of our team members who works at both our Kitchener and Waterloo bakeries, both of which are both owned by Steff Steers. When we reached out to Steff to get in touch with Spencer, she proudly said, “He is a mini me! Very excited, energetic and just exudes positivity. Customers ask us multiple times a day if he is my son! It makes us both smile. He’s like my bakery son!”
And it’s safe to say that Spencer thinks Steff’s COBS Bread locations are great places to work, and, as Steff shared, he also contributes to this environment. Here’s what makes working so great from Spencer’s perspective.
How He Got Started:
“I started with COBS on a part time basis to earn a little extra money. My intent was never to stay longer, but things changed quickly. I fell in love with being here, and working with everyone.
“Our customers are the best. Hardly anyone is upset, and they are so easy to help. I love people, and especially happy people. I guess I loved it so much that I quickly switched to working Full Time, and started working opening shifts.”
A little bit more about Spencer:
“I can’t decide. Cinnamon Loaf for French toast, or Garlic Cheddar Sourdough. If I’m having a soup, pasta, or chili- I have to have it. Also Cape Seed. (COBS Bread employees can never choose only one favourite!)”
“Cinnamon Buns. The first time I brought a box home, my roommates and I downed them immediately.
Anything you’ve learned that you didn’t expect to learn at COBS?
“I’ve never been a big baker, (although I’ve always enjoyed cooking) but I get to help out with the baking from time to time!”
Thanks to Spencer, Steff and the team for making COBS Bread a Great Place to Work® .
