It’s been a little over a month since the first COBS Bread bakery opened in Ontario’s Niagara region in early June 2019. Since then, the St. Catharine’s community has heartily welcomed Marko and his bakery located at Ridley Square.
Marko was interested in opening a COBS Bread bakery in his region because the strong community values of the COBS Bread brand aligned with his own. At the end of each day of every bakery across Canada, unsold products are donated to local charities. This amounts to approximately $1,000 in retail bread costs, and on a national annual basis, COBS Bread bakeries combined donate over 30 million in bread per year.
COBS Ridley Square donates all End of Day Giving product to Community Care, an organization that serves the St. Catharines and Thorold community by providing those vulnerable with access to programs to improve their lives. In addition to the end of day donations, Marko is taking his community commitment a step further- one day per month, he will be donating the profits to the organization as well. This is truly taking commitment to the community a step further.
Community Care was also the recipient of his Community Day (a fundraising day each bakery hosts in the first few weeks of opening where all sales are donated to a local charity).
It is passionate franchisees like Marko who strengthen our communities. If you are thinking about becoming a part of a community-oriented franchise and opening your own bakery, inquire today.
