COBS Bread has opened in Cranbrook! This is the first COBS Bread bakery in the area and we are so excited to have been welcomed with open arms into the community. Learn a little bit more about Cranbrook locals and franchisees Rod and Tamara Duggan.
When did you join the COBS Bread family and what inspired you to do so? Why did you decide to open a COBS Bread bakery?
We started our journey towards becoming COBS Bread franchisees in December 2017. We tried the products on a trip to Vancouver. On the next trip, we found ourselves bringing empty luggage just so we could bring home COBS Bread products!
What did you do before working at COBS Bread?
Tamara and I have run several successful businesses. I am a journeyman automotive mechanic and Tamara is a is a social worker. When we moved to Cranbrook for a change in lifestyle, we missed some of the excitement big city offers, so we became entrepreneurs.
What do you enjoy most about being a COBS Bread franchisee?
We really enjoy the production side. Starting from a blank slate of an empty bakery in the morning, and then having shelves full of wonderful scratch-made products a few hours later. We’ve really enjoyed introducing these products to Cranbrook and Kimberley.
Which charities does your bakery donate End of Day products to?
There is a grassroots free breakfast program in Cranbrook that we are very proud to support. We also support school lunch programs. We really want to focus on helping out locals who are less fortunate by providing them with fresh, healthy product.

What’s your favourite thing to do with your spare time?
We enjoy getting out in the back country during the summers, as well as getting out to some of the lakes. During the winter, we do more indoor activities like model building, home renovations or learning new skills!
