COBS BREAD TO DONATE $1 FROM EVERY SCONE PURCHASED ON MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND TO BC WOMEN’S HEALTH FOUNDATION (PARTICIPATING BAKERIES ONLY)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Vancouver, BC) April 28, 2021 –COBS Bread is partnering with BC Women’s Health Foundation (BCWHF) to support their vision of healthy women everywhere, capable of anything. At 10 bakeries participating in the Lower Mainland, $1 from every scone purchased on Mother’s Day weekend (May 8th & 9th) will be donated back to BCWHF. COBS Bread hopes to raise $5,000 for the Foundation.

“I am proud to partner with BC Women’s Health Foundation,” says Andrew Gunn, franchise owner of COBS Bread Main Street and Blundell, both participating in the fundraiser. “One of my children was born at BC Women’s Hospital, so when given the opportunity to give back, it was a 100% yes.”

BCWHF has identified that COVID-19 has widened the gap of caregiving for women. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, 30% of women in BC were unpaid caregivers for someone who is elderly or disabled. This amounts to an estimated 6 million hours per week of unpaid care, beyond parenting. This number has likely increased in the past year as, for example, in April of 2020, women attributed six times more of their lost work hours each week to family responsibilities than men. This Mother’s Day, they are recognizing the women who remain strong and help everyone else. These statistics are sourced from the Unmasking Gender Inequity Report and the supporting Spotlight on Women’s Mental Health.

“When we think of mothers, we think of care,” says Christie Buono Director, Marketing + Community Partnerships for BCWHF. “This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating all of the women caregivers out there – from biological or chosen mothers, aunties, nurses, teachers, and daughters caring for elderly parents. We’re thrilled to partner with such an incredible community partner like COBS Bread who want to invest in women’s health. You can make an impact by purchasing a scone on May 8th & 9th.”
