Directions

1. In a small bowl, mix together salt, pepper, garlic powder, and sugar. Set aside half of the seasoning for later use.
2. In a separate bowl, gently mix the ground beef, mayonnaise, panko breadcrumbs, and melted butter until just combined.
Form 4 patties, measuring them slightly wider than the bun.
Refrigerate for 20 minutes.
BBQ Tip: Do not squish or overwork the meat—gentle handling keeps the patties juicy.
3. Using the remaining half of the seasoning, lightly season only the outside of the patties about 15 minutes before they go on the grill.
4. Combine the reserved seasoning with 1 Tbsp mayonnaise. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to assemble the burgers.
5. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Carefully place the patties on the grill and cook for about 5 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
BBQ Tip: Resist the urge to press down on the burgers—this releases juices and makes them harder to flip.
6. Once the burgers are almost done, place both types of cheese on top, crossed lengthwise. When the cheese has melted, remove patties from heat and let rest for 5–10 minutes before assembling.
