Meet Sukant, Your New Local Bakery Owner in Calgary, Alberta 

We are so happy to introduce Sukant, the proud owner of our newest bakery located in Calgary, Alberta. Sukant is passionate, community focused and a real go-getter. He is the perfect addition to our COBS Bread family and we are so excited to have him on our team. Keep reading to learn a little more about Sukant, what led him to this journey and how he plans on giving back to the community!  

What did you do before becoming a COBS Bread bakery owner? 

Before joining COBS bread, my journey in the culinary world was shaped by diverse experiences. This includes working as a chef in renowned establishments in India, Dubai, London and Canada.  

I have achieved significant achievements in my culinary journey. In 2012, I achieved the Certified Chef de Cuisine designation, the highest recognition in Canada for chefs. This designation opened doors for me to contribute to the culinary community, as well as showcase my skills on Food Network Canada’s Fire Masters. 

In 2022 and 2023, I had the honour of serving as a judge for the Skills Canada Culinary Competitions. This role reflects my dedication to fostering talents and upholding industry standards.  

Additionally, I have been on the advisory committee for NAIT’s culinary program, while continuing being a member of the Canadian Culinary Federation, which allows me to contribute to the education and development of aspiring chefs.  

When did you join the COBS Bread family? Why did you decide to go with COBS Bread? 

I became a proud member of the COBS Bread family in July 2023. Thank you to my chef-friend, Bishwa Pati, a COBS Bread multi-site franchisee, who first introduced me to the brand back in 2017.  

Bread to me is beautifully crafted, so pure and deserving of love. COBS Bread’s commitment to the craft, community engagement and its unique approach to empowering bakery owners aligns perfectly with my values and aspirations.  

Furthermore, the possibility of being closer to my family and achieving a work-life balance combined with COBS Bread’s receiving the Franchisee’s Choice Award of Excellence for twelve consecutive years, convinced me to take on the journey of being a COBS Bread franchisee.  

What are you looking forward to about your new bakery? 

Creating a welcome space for the community to enjoy the warmth of freshly baked artisan breads and treats is a genuine pleasure. I am excited to bring the rich flavours and techniques that I have learned during my 16-weeks of comprehensive training to my new bakery.  

Additionally, I am eager to create jobs and offer employment opportunities to the community, while contributing to the training and development of aspiring cooks and bakers.  

Before joining COBS Bread, were you much of a baker? 

While I was previously a chef, joining COBS Bread provided me with the opportunity to dig deeper into the art of baking, particularly mastering the intricate process of crafting artisanal Sourdoughs, French Baguettes and more.  

How are you planning on getting involved in the community?  

My commitment to the community engagement extends beyond the bakery. I plan to collaborate with local businesses, host baking workshops, as well as support local events.  

What charity are you partnering with for Community Day? 

Our bakery is proud to partner with ” Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids,” an organization dedicated to ensuring no child in our community goes hungry. By supporting this initiative on Community Day, we aim to contribute to their mission of providing nutritious lunches for school children, while fostering a healthier future for our young neighbourhood. 

If you were a treat or loaf from COBS Bread, which one would you be and why?  

If I were a COBS Bread treat, I would be the Cinnamon Loaf – a perfect blend of warmth, sweetness, and a touch of spice. Similar to this loaf, I aim to bring comfort and joy to everyone who walks through the doors of our bakery.
