RioCan Centre Kingston BakeryWe are very excited to once again be opening in a new town, where a COBS Bread has never existed before! On May 11th, Ashley Logan will be opening the new COBS Bread RioCan Centre in Kingston, Ontario as the franchise owner. In typical COBS Bread tradition, we wanted you to get to know all about Ashley and what lead her to her decision to open a COBS Bread in our latest Behind the Bread blog.

Behind the Bread with Ashley Logan

When did you join the COBS Bread family and what inspired you to do so?

The first time I walked into a COBS Bread I thought, “Wow, this place is amazing!” At first, it was the Higher Fibre loaf that I would seek to feed my picky eater of a toddler, but then as I learned more about the products, the freshness, and the quality, I became a regular customer. Once I moved cities and I was no longer able to shop at the bakery, I decided that I would love to own and operate a COBS Bread in Kingston.

What did you do before working at Cobs?

Before COBS, I worked for 13 years as a Logistics Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy.  I have worked in many different positions both on land and at sea. After many years, and two children later, I decided it was time for a change and a new adventure. What attracted me to the Navy was the idea of giving back to our country, what attracts me to COBS is how we give back to the community.

Why COBS Bread?

COBS Bread is a business unlike many out there that I will summarize in one word: quality.  All of the bread is fresh, made from scratch with real ingredients that I am proud to not only eat myself but serve to my children, friends and family.  When you bring a product home from COBS, everyone is excited and happy to eat it.  What also attracted me to the business what that at the end of the day, all of the left over bread goes to a local charity.

What do you enjoy the most about being a fr

I enjoy being in a culture that strives to cont

inuously improve. People are encouraged to provide feedback, come up with new ideas about products or recipes and share experiences. The end result becomes a friendly work environment and very happy customers. There is nothing better than working in an environment where people come in and immediately smile, just from the smell, and continue to smile as they take their purchases home.

Which charities will your bakery donate end of day products to?

The local food bank, The Boys and Girls Club of Kingston, and many other charities.

How are you planning on getting involved in the community?

Our first big event will be held on May 11th.  We

are very excited to be hosting a community day where all sales that day will be donated back to The Boys and Girls Club of Kingston.  Having two children myself, I recognize the importance of a place where all children can get together, learn, grow and most importantly have fun. The Boys and Girls Club has provided this atmosphere for so many of the children in Kingston that we are very excited to be holding this Community Day for them.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love being active and spending time with my husband and two little boys outside, especially camping, paddle boarding or skiing.  And believe it or not, I still like to bake at home when I need to relax.

Thank you for sharing your story, Ashley! Welcome to the COBS Bread family.
